On September 24, 2025, the 9th Session of the 5th Member Representative Congress of Shanghai Survey & Design Industry Association and the Industry Achievements Review Conference commemorating the Association's 40th anniversary were grandly held in Shanghai. The Flue Gas CO2 Capture to Methanol Demonstration Project of Waigaoqiao No.3 Power Plant, declared by Wison Engineering, stood out among over 300 participating projects, and successfully won the honor of "Landmark (Exemplary) Project of Shanghai Survey and Design Industry's 40th Anniversary". It became the only chemical engineering project among the 46 awarded projects, which also include the Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl Radio & Television Tower, National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and others.
The selection activity of "Landmark (Exemplary) Project of Shanghai Survey and Design Industry's 40th Anniversary" is guided by the China Engineering & Consulting Association, and organized by the Shanghai Survey & Design Industry Association. As a crucial platform for showcasing the development achievements of the industry on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, this selection aims to fully present the outstanding achievements of Shanghai's survey and design industry in such fields as urban public buildings, municipal transportation hub projects, urban landscapes, and industrial engineering.
The award-winning Flue Gas CO2 Capture to Methanol Demonstration Project of Waigaoqiao No.3 Power Plant by WEL is Shanghai's first industrial-scale demonstration project that captures carbon dioxide from the flue gas of a coal-fired power plant and synthesizes low-carbon methanol through hydrogenation. Leveraging its experience in multiple new technology engineering scaling-up and engineering transformation projects, the project team, in light of the characteristics of this project, has carried out the secondary development of the process package—including HMB calculation and optimization for process units, process simulation, and equipment calculation—based on the core process data sheets provided by the patent holder. Furthermore, the team has integrated the accumulated experience in conducting tests of new technologies throughout the entire process, from engineering, procurement, and construction to unit commissioning, testing, and performance assessment. This has provided solid technical support for the demonstration project's smooth completion, testing, and delivery.
This demonstration project relies on the power plant's existing electricity supply, surplus low-grade waste heat, and public auxiliary facilities, and achieves emission reduction through carbon capture and conversion technologies. It is not only a practice of in-depth carbon dioxide emission reduction, but also explores the process route of methanol, which has the dual attributes of synthesizing high-value-added chemicals and low-carbon liquid fuels. Its innovative practices not only provide valuable test data for carbon emission reduction and carbon resource utilization in the power industry, but also contribute to the transformation of the entire industry towards a development model featuring efficient resource recycling and green growth.
This recognition as a "Landmark (Exemplary) Project of Shanghai Survey and Design Industry's 40th Anniversary" is not only a high affirmation of WEL's technological innovation and engineering transformation capabilities but also an acknowledgment of its long-term commitment and strategic layout in the direction of energy transformation as a responsible listed company. The successful experience accumulated from this project will provide a valuable, replicable, and sustainable technical pathway for the low-carbon and high-quality development in the hard-to-abate sectors in the Yangtze River Delta region and even nationwide. Wison Engineering will continue to uphold the philosophy of innovation-driven development, persistently increase R&D investment in new energy and green low-carbon technologies, and deliver more green, low-carbon, and efficient technical solutions for clients and the industry. Through continuous engineering technological innovation, we will jointly contribute to the early achievement of the "peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality" goals for the industry and society as a whole.
